Visiting Surgical Teams

An essential part of the St. Benedict Joseph Medical Center is to host visiting surgical teams who offer their services free of charge to the poor. Almost every kind of surgery and specialty that can be carried out in a mostly outpatient facility is needed.

SBJ has four operating rooms and all the basic services of a surgical suite from pre-op to recovery. It also provides support services such as consult rooms, pharmacy, and patient rooms for short-term observation after surgery.

SBJ has hosted medical professionals in the following fields:

General Surgery
Plastic Surgery
Orthopedic Surgery
Urology
Obstetrics/Gynecology
Podiatry
Ophthalmology
Otolaryngology

Common surgeries at SBJ include:

Hernia
Gallbladder

" The team of folks that come together to make the medical mission possible are a living example of Christs body working in harmony—ALIVE! I realized that the poor are the true princes and princesses of the world. The true humility lived out by the poor serves us with an example that I will continue to embrace and try to follow. I am indebted to the poor of Honduras for sharing their treasures with me during my short visit."
